PROJECT
The “North Field Expansion” (NFXP) projects that aim to increase total LNG output to 142 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) by 2030.The project’s ambitious objective is to capture millions of tonnes of CO₂ annually, while recovering boil-off gas for reuse as fuel. This approach makes it possible to offset approximately one million metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. One of the most significant technical challenges is ensuring that the expansion is sustainable from a “green” perspective.
Project Country
Qatar
TECHNICAL ON
The project requires the installation of multiple offshore platforms with large-scale topsides, intended for drilling activities and initial production.
It also includes the laying of kilometers of subsea pipelines and cables for gas transport, as well as subsea umbilicals for remote control, all within a complex operational environment shaped by the challenges of the Persian Gulf seabed.
.
ESA
ESA energized seals achieved Quatargas qualification. McDermott and Saipem acted as EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractors for this massive CO2 capture project.
EPC
Saipem is a global leader in the engineering and construction of large-scale energy projects, with a long-standing and well-established specialization in the Oil & Gas sector, both onshore and offshore.

END USER
Qatargas is the world’s largest producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG). It extracts gas from the North Field, located offshore Qatar, which is considered the largest non-associated natural gas field in the world.
